“This election is bogus”

This morning I stood outside the polls along with the candidates’ representatives, holding my sign “I will not participate in a presidential election run by mega-corporations and wealthy individuals.”  Instead, for the Presidential election, I did a write-in stating “This election is bogus.”  This is about a particular election and not about the electoral concept.  I did vote at the local level.

  1. I understand your frustration, Paul, and share it. I respect the way you vote (or “un”-vote) your conscience. But my choice is something else. You can call it lesser of two evils if you wish, or the preferred candidate given the choices we have.

To me, each vote is so precious, especially in states that could potentially swing toward greater “evil,” I choose to spend my vote differently from you.

But I do love that we each may voice our opinion. It’s no small thing.

  2. I am gratified by the electoral results, but I am not jubilant. Consider that I (and doubtless many liberal friends) would have been more gratified (but hardly jubilant) had we been able to rejuvenate General Eisenhower and re-elect him President. That gives an idea of how we have come and how far we have fallen.

The manner in which our national elections are now conducted is abhorrent and does not represent the citizenry. For example, I have no doubt that, if the Green and Libertarian parties had the money and influence that the Democratic and Republican parties have, and the Democratic and Republican parties had the money and influence that the Green and Libertarian parties have, we would now have either a Green or Libertarian President. In other words, these elections are about the money and influence, not the issues.
