{"id":15,"date":"2007-05-25T16:05:59","date_gmt":"2007-05-25T21:05:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.peacefulways.com\/?p=15"},"modified":"2008-01-05T20:43:08","modified_gmt":"2008-01-06T01:43:08","slug":"away-from-it-all-with-solo-backpacking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.peacefulways.com\/?p=15","title":{"rendered":"Away from it all, with solo backpacking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently spent three days backpacking\u00a0 the Tuscarora Trail on Blue Mountain.\u00a0 I saw no one the whole time and had a great time.\u00a0 It was pleasant and natural, and everything went well.\u00a0 But it is curious some of the comments that I received.<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>&#8220;Weren&#8217;t you scared?\u00a0 Someone might attack you.&#8221;\u00a0 Well, the most dangerous part of the trip was the drive getting there (northwest of Carlisle, PA), and next would be doing the errands that were required in preparation.\u00a0 Why do folks see nature as so inherently scary,\u00a0 absent the protective veneer of\u00a0 &#8220;civilization?&#8221;\u00a0 A few expressed concern about bears, which is a minimal risk compared to daily life.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;No cell phone.
