{"id":196,"date":"2010-05-19T23:02:17","date_gmt":"2010-05-20T04:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.peacefulways.com\/?p=196"},"modified":"2010-06-11T22:42:08","modified_gmt":"2010-06-12T03:42:08","slug":"blumenthals-dubious-vietnam-service-political-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.peacefulways.com\/?p=196","title":{"rendered":"Blumenthal&#8217;s dubious &#8220;Vietnam Service&#8221; political campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I posted the following Comment in the NYTimes in response to\u00a0the Senate candidate&#8217;s\u00a0misleading\u00a0\u00a0speeches (&#8220;lies&#8221; may be too strong a word for it) <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: small;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/05\/19\/nyregion\/19veterans.html\">http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/05\/19\/nyregion\/19veterans.html<\/a><\/span>\u00a0regarding service in Vietnam:<\/p>\n<p>What bothers me even more than his inferences\u00a0of having\u00a0served in Vietnam is that Blumenthal&#8217;s Vietnam\u00a0campaign strategy\u00a0works\u00a0directly against the nation\u2019s welfare today, as he tries to generate anger over Vietnam\u00a0 so as to garner veterans&#8217; votes.<!--more-->\u00a0I could say as he does \u201cI remember the taunts, the insults, sometimes even physical abuse.\u201d But not done against veterans (his audience), but against those who served their country by speaking out against the Vietnam War. I could say much. It then becomes a pointless argument about who abused whom, who started it, how much, and so on.<\/p>\n<p>GET OVER IT. That is not the issue confronting American voters \u00a0(including veterans) today.<\/p>\n<p>(Incidentally, the NYTimes op-ed article by Pressler\u00a0published this same day\u00a0regarding the after-effects of the Vietnam War is both misleading and superficial in limiting itself to the single\u00a0topic of those who cynically avoided the Vietnam War such as Blumenthal.
