{"id":24,"date":"2007-12-07T23:43:46","date_gmt":"2007-12-08T04:43:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.peacefulways.com\/?p=24"},"modified":"2008-01-05T20:34:57","modified_gmt":"2008-01-06T01:34:57","slug":"romney-speaks-of-religion-and-politics-in-america-dec-6-2007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.peacefulways.com\/?p=24","title":{"rendered":"Romney speaks of religion and politics in America (Dec 6, 2007)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Email comment submitted in response to\u00a0a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/12\/07\/opinion\/07brooks.html?_r=1&#038;oref=slogin\" target=\"_blank\">NYTimes\u00a0column<\/a> by David Brooks.<\/p>\n<p>When Romney speaks of the American religious community, he in fact is referring to a particular religious community and thereby excludes many of the religious of America.\u00a0\u00a0 He hardly speaks for me, a self-described Quaker pacifist revolutionary.\u00a0 Nor does he speak for millions of Americans of other faiths.\u00a0 As a principled member of a religious community, I find myself unable to recite the Pledge of Allegiance until that day comes when \u201cliberty and justice for all\u201d\u00a0has indeed become\u00a0the rule of the land.\u00a0 Only at that point could it be meaningful to\u00a0consider the use of the phrase \u201cunder God\u201d when speaking of this nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Email comment submitted in response to\u00a0a NYTimes\u00a0column by David Brooks.
