Martin Luther King, Robin Hood, and who’s an outlaw?

Filed under: Peace — admin @ 8:30 pm

Back home just now from Lockheed-Martin, the world’s largest nuclear weapons contractor. My friends and I attempted nonviolently to carry copies of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons to the workers at this facility, but were waylaid by security and police. In picture I am reading my current Villanova course text in the police van while waiting for whatever might be next. The course subject is the legend of the outlaw Robin Hood in Medieval Britain. It seemed particularly appropriate reading matter at this time.

  1. Brandywine Peace Community has a schedule of arrestable nonviolent direct actions in which I participate as a matter of faithfulness. I post some of them here, particularly when there is a good picture opportunity or something of particular interest. In this case our handcuffs were in front, while the more standard practice has been to be cuffed from behind, in which case no police wagon pictures. But it was cold today, and so things seemed to go more quickly and simply. To be studying the medieval “outlaw” Robin Hood seemed particularly relevant.

  2. On 23 January I held a Freedom School class at Villanova. Good to be back in the classroom again for this special event. My topic was MLK’s shattering Riverside Church speech. So important; so ignored today in favor of dreaming the “I have a dream” speech. Wake up, folks.
