We’re much more than Quaker activists, so I’ll skip the latest news in that area and give other news about us. Fran and I are amateur mycologists and spent last Sunday at the New Jersey Mycological Association’s annual Fungus Fest in Moorestown, N.J. We worked tables for the crowd of a few hundred at Frelinghuysen Arboretum. We also engage with the arts, and so the previous evening (Saturday) we were at a “Happening” at the Barnes. We attended the free dress rehearsal for the “world premier” of Handel and Glass with counter tenor Anthony Roth Costanzo at a special Philadelphia Opera event (with dancing, painting, etc.). Last month we did a brief backpacking trip on the Tuscarora Trail near Colonel Denning State Park west of Harrisburg. Meanwhile we have had some nice visits with family. Fran continues spinning on her colonial great wheel (in costume for events) and working with the Media Historical Society and doing a host of other things. I’m taking a class at Villanova as I’ve done every semester since I stopped teaching three years ago. This semester the course is Medical Ethics — interesting. This post is a sampling of our activities and while some of this is also on Facebook, I am posting it here for those who might not be Facebook contacts and wonder what else we do with our lives.

I will update folks about the Mama Bears’ action at the Mariner East2 pipeline in June. Fran was arrested for attempting to delay the laying of pipe. I served as the liaison with police and security. Fran was “guilty” and asked the PYM Fund for Sufferings for assistance in paying her fine. Doing so is in line with the purpose of this fund, and I serve on the PYM FFS committee (I recused myself re her application).
